11/3/13 - Getting Over the Hump

The way we outline this experience here is so simple, right? First you join the community, then you learn everything about everything, you have a blast doing it, and you ride into the sunset with a whole new lifestyle, six pack abs and all. Well, yea..

That’s the idea.

However, though this is a very real possibility, we often find that the road to the promise land isn’t nearly as straight or swift as that. I can say with conviction that we, as an institution, get more people to this life changing experience faster and more often than any other place within 100 miles of here, but the journey often has its fair share of bumps in the road.

What do we do about it? I say we ought to address it. How can I as a coach help you as a student “get over the hump?” How do you go from wanting fitness to having fitness?

There’s no better recipe for success, in my opinion, than “buying in” with commitment to the goal. Knowing that this is where you need to be in this moment is critical. Secondly, knowing that adversity is just around the corner will keep you prepared for when it comes. This is critical for when you’re in a groove and that big work trip comes up or you get the flu. Students will need some level of resilience to the curves in the road. If not, you’ll be out of the game at the first sign of trouble.

It’s once you’re “over the hump” that this experience becomes exactly like the one we talk about in the “Intro Session,” where you are able to show up until forever and it’s not hard because it’s just what you do. It’s that lifestyle of fitness the lies just beyond the early bumps in the road.

Keep your eyes on the prize. It’s yours if you can get over a couple bumps in the road, I promise.
