4/30/12 - The Reebok CrossFit Games: SoCal Regional

In two weeks, Danny and I will compete in the final step towards the ultimate proving grounds of human fitness: The Reebok CrossFit Games. The official FFOTB doctor ([email protected]), Lindsey Mathews, is competing as well. May 11-13th the fittest men and women in Sourthern California will converge of the Pomona Fairplex for The CrossFit Games: SoCal Regional.

I think exercising really fast is fun(ny).

The bad news is that classes will be CANCELLED Friday and Saturday (May 11th and 12th). The good news is that I believe firmly that any student will benefit more from witnessing this event than working out that day. Yes, I am telling you that being spectator for the weekend will likely do more good for you than working out will.

Plus, you all are educated and experienced spectators. You’ll recognize snatches, hang cleans, AMRAPs, and chippers. You’ll see both men and women doing this impossible.

If you’re able to watch some of the competition, expect to walk away motivated and proud. Whether you know it or not, there are many folks all over the world with stories just like yours. I’d encourage y’all to come out and see the show!

I am 30 years old and I'm not claiming to know a lot, but I do know a few things.  I know that I fail all the time, even with the best of intentions and maximal effort.  It is just one of those things that is inevitable.  I am ok with that.  I have had really bad days, and had amazingly good days.  I have had really ba ...

Yesterday I was thinking about food (shocker), and I began to think about common associations our society has with nutrition. It began when I saw a tweet from Bob Harper, host of The Biggest Loser, that said something like, "I start everyday with a bowl of Quaker oatmeal. Carbs in the morning give me energy to make it throu ...

Do you ever feel like this place is in the business of fixing people? If so, that's either my fault for giving you that perspective or you're fault for assuming. The point is, for many of us, things may look and feel a lot different if we didn't assume that something is wrong with us.What if every aspect of you was ...

Los Angeles is a mecca for both yoga and fitness. While the two should seemingly be intertwined, it seems as those folks follow one or the other practice, with little respect for or knowledge of the other. Chances are if you're fully committed to one of these modalities, you'd benefit from some exposure to the other. Read more

We've got to believe in something. Where do you draw the line in the sand?  I'm not saying you need to pray at the FFOTB altar just because I do, but I think we all believe in something. I'm not even talking about religion. This could be in reference to nutrition, politics, philosophy, or even whether or not to open presen ...

Part of what makes us unique is that our entire foundation is built around living within health and wellness. FFOTB isn't medicine for bad eating habits. Drop-in classes aren't made to counter balance weekend benders. And, our workouts aren't made to build up a fitness bank to be debited (justified) with treats. We d ...

I was asked by the wonderful people at BreakingMuscle.com to write this piece. As you know a large part of the experience at the Bluffs is simply getting together and working out.  For some, this may be all that they know of the Bluffs.  If you have read into our website, follow the blog on a somewhat regular basis, or have spent a good amount of time in class, you have more than likely caught wind ...
